1. Beta recognition. Even if we can get it linked and everything, I think a text field on the story page would be good. I'd like to build beta recognition in from the ground up, because that's a new thing that is worth doing.
MetaFic is nearly done. User profiles have been reorganized, author/story names are now bigger on story lists
Chapter posts show the parent story, and the chapter number. Links for prev/next chapters now exist. Unfortunately, those very same links killed my prologue nomenclature (or lack of), but who cares as long as the rest is working, right?
Most important of all, I have a story for the challenge. And I'm working on CoH (well, not right now, but it's bound to happen in a few hours).
It is not in the human nature to trust someone you just met. Especially if you know that this same person has wronged you in some way. But still, sometimes it is necessary to fight these instincts for the greater good. The only problems are that the negative impulses are hard to fight, and then 'greater good' is not a concept on which people tend to agree.
Remus Lupin was waiting in line for his Portkey back to England. He was nervous and excited at the same time. He couldn't wait to meet the child he once loved like his own, a child he would have taken in if circumstances had been different. But now things had changed and he couldn't wait to meet Harry Potter, his best friend's son - again.
The setting:
At the end of Book 4, when Harry returns with Cedric's body.
The challenge:
Pick a non-central character (excluded list below), and write about what the canon events mean to this character. The story is to be written from their point of view, and it should focus on their growing understanding of the implications of events. Dialog is not forbidden, but any dialog should contribute to the central theme. The story must begin when Harry returns with Cedric's body, but the end point (in the timeline) for the piece is where you choose to make it.
What have I been doing since late January? Work, mostly.
Bear in mind it takes me about 1 hour to "get into the mindset" to work on Echoes. When I can't get much more than that minimum, it's hard to make much headway. E:28 is mostly ready for beta, but needs final polishing . . . I wanted to have it in beta a couple of months ago, but then I wound up moving to another state, and there has been no free time at all.
Many people would consider the word soulmate to be self-explanatory, but how far is one supposed to take the term? Some would say that any person you share many interests with is a soulmate, while others insist that the only way to qualify is to be your perfect match.
When a child is conceived, be it magical or Muggle, a mark is made in the Record of Souls. It is not accessible by humans, for the power available to one who can control the Record is nearly limitless. However, several Beings of a higher order did, in fact, have access to the Record, with full rights and the privileges which that entailed.
In a world where prophecies are made and futures are toyed with, nothing is impossible; with the proper motivation, even incredibly implausible ideas can be put into play in very interesting ways...
If a greater force chooses to meddle with the chain of events we thought was final there is no telling what could happen. Things may change more than thought possible.
A re-telling of canon.
