My wife has never read any of my fanfic, always asking why I don't write any original stuff. She tends to be a lone voice amongst those who are interested in what I write as everyone else wants to know when the next chapter of 12M or Sins will be. But now she's happy, because I'm working on an idea that has no links to Harry Potter.
I got a really cool Christmas present. "HGRHfan35" on SIYE created a picture for me to go with Lily's Child and I thought I'd share it with everyone. It's an animated GIF and you can find it at: http://s675.photobucket.com/albums/vv116/HGRHfan35/?action=view¤t=...
It is snowing here; started last night and we have probably over 8 inches on the ground right now. We are under a Winter Storm Warning and a Blizzard Warning will kick in about 5pm (local) this evening and stay in effect overnight. The initial forecasts were 12+ inches, now it is up to 22 inches. Whoohoo! I know the amount of snow we get in the Mid-Atlantic states might not be much to other readers, but for us real big snow storms are quite rare. This is our first in over three years. It is making a nice addition to the Christmas decorations inside and out!
I bet everyone thought I was gone. :) I see haven't left a blog entry for over 8 months. Yup, I've been busy (and sometimes lazy. :) Two big pieces of news: "Lily's Child" ch 3 is finally out, and I'm looking for a couple of betas.
((A/N: My apologies to everyone for the length of time it took for this chapter to come out.
For those who wish to know, the majority of the problem is that I changed my writing process with this story. The new process, obviously, did not hold for very long before I collapsed under it. Let that be a lesson to all other writers: If you find a process that works well for you, don’t change it on a major story. If you want to change your writing process, try on a small to medium sized story to make sure the new process really works for you.
Scouting around for something new to read I came across Ginny's Journey on SIYE.
I was surprised to find that the interaction between H&G after 48 chapters is minimal. I won't be continuing with the story because I didn't actually like it, but it got me thinking; how much H&G does the story have to have to find a place on the site?
Chapter 19
I want to talk about something else for a little while.
Not unlike me. I know.
“But I don’t want her to come with me,” he whined. “It’s my wand we’re buying not hers!”
Ginny bit her lip as her eleven year old son, Zachary, folded his arms and scowled at his six year old sister. Standing behind her increasingly exasperated mother, the girl peered out from behind Ginny’s robes and stuck her tongue out in triumph at her unhappy brother.
She runs her hand across its marked and scarred surface and remembers. Each scratch, each a stain a memory, a reminder of the time they have had together. The longest and deepest is covered by a Glamour; made by the belt on her jeans which, although they had been quickly discarded, still got caught up in their passion. Her trembling arthritic finger traces the scratch’s hidden path across the dark wooden surface. She knows each twist and turn as well as she knows the bumps ridges of the scar on his forehead.
He says goodbye with a peck on my check. He is smiling and joking but I am not fooled. His eyes betray his unease, and I’m aware of his betrayal. I ask myself ‘when did it begin? When did I lose his love? When did his attention wander?’
The house is empty; and being October the children are all at school. I can’t help but feel bitter; I poured my heart and soul into raising our children – his children, and now my job is nearly over, I turn around and his mind and body are elsewhere.
