moshpit's blog: Alive and Kicking

Since I periodically get pinged or PM'd for "is this abandoned?" type of queries, or "are you still alive?" issues . . . I thought I'd post a brief summary of status here.

The limiting factor in my writing -- as for most people -- is my free time. My work environment has done everything possible to remove the concept of free time, such that when coupled to my personal life I have about 1.5 hours per week "to myself" to do as I wish. That makes it hard to do anything at all with Echoes, and that's partly why I started little drabbles like The Contract or the other bunny trails.

moshpit's blog: Originality vs. Something Else

I received an interesting review for Echoes recently.

Really, really well written. I mean it. You are super duper. Top quality.

However, there is this word on my tongue. It starts with c, ends with é, has six letters and it's actually second word of the name of one of your stories. I know this is getting old but I'll say it anyway: why is this trend everywhere where I look?

moshpit's blog: The Vatican Canons vs The Chudley Cannons

Since I don't have the time to develop it, nor was anyone looking for bad plot ideas, here's the light sketch I put together for an entry to the SIYE challenge. It's free for picking over or wholesale lifting, should it strike your creativity in just the right way . . .

moshpit's blog: Bad story sketch (SIYE challenge) up for grabs

The SIYE challenge for basically writing a bad story spawned a plot bunny, but I have so little bandwidth at the moment that there's no way I can write it. If anyone is interested in a bad-fic sketch with some really painful bits of humor, and has thick enough skin to pull it off in the face of the inevitable reviews, let me know.

Worst-case, I'll post the outline here if no one wants it. I blame Dave for pointing me to the SIYE site for this thing in the first place. I stopped reading there a while ago.

          moshpit's blog: Minor updates

E29B is at beta stage 3/5. It was suggested a summary view might be "A kinder, gentler Harry" given the content of that half, but to really be a proper tease, those pesky answers (caveats and limitations) continue. Even some of the Big Ones are in there. I wouldn't recommend eating a meal during this installment, for the record.

The Contract has some material written, but it's not in order (like anything in that story is?) that we want to publish it in. Either Dave or I need to write a couple of missing scenes at some point to get that rolling again. Time, time, time.

moshpit's blog: Changing default Font Size on MetaFic

At user request, I have just installed a font-size changing control on the site to help those that need it.

On the top-left, just under the "search" box, is a header that says "Text Size". This is expandable. If you don't see a selection to increase/decrease/reset the font size, click on it, and you should get a drop-down list of choices. (Read the full blog entry for details.)

moshpit's blog: 408 MB every week

Some months prior, I posted a note about the amount of bandwidth this website took. The readership has expanded, naturally, and the hosted content is growing. As we can, we'll continue to broaden everything, too. So what has that done to our site profile?

                moshpit's blog: Echoes Ch29 . . .

The first half, a fully self-contained chapter for most authors, has moved into the next beta stage. Whew. Between real life (travel, plague, etc.) and plot entanglements, that took longer than expected. This component weighs in at 18+k words.

The second half should be in full beta this week.

moshpit's blog: Random bits of status

Updates on stories and various evil bunnies that run rampant at times, for the curious.

                    moshpit's blog: SIYE chapter fun

It turns out that SIYE's back-end engine refuses (and I mean refuses) to let anyone edit my posted chapters. I can't. The admin's can't. The only editing possible is by manually manipulating the database behind the thing, from a shell prompt. Since I lack shell access, and only Dino can step in at this point, well . . . he's slammed with real life, and the four chapters at SIYE that are truncated can't be fixed. So I just re-posted Chapters 4, 7, 10, and 26 as "new" chapters for a temporary work-around.
